Me Day

I went to City Link for a chill-out time.

And what a fantastic evening I had. I popped into HMV and purchased two books that were on sale. 2 for $20 and so far, it was a brilliant buy.

Went to TCC (somewhere down the path), settled into the sofa seat and ordered spaghetti and meatball gratin with a cuppa hazelnut latté.

Opened the book that caught my attention first. It's called 'Never Hit A Jellyfish With A Spade'. One look at the title and the pic, and I grabbed it already. It's so bloody funny. I was laughing like an idiot at TCC and in the train. The author is Guy Browning and he's a Brit columnist. This book is actually a collection of his column articles. They all start off with How To...

I quote from How To... die
(the section that got me into a fit in the train)
'The best way of preparing for death is to make sure you have a good life. This doesn't mean you should live each day as if it were your last. You don't want to spend everyday of your life with eighteen anxious relatives around your bed and a priest warming up in the hall.

Be suspicious of famous last words. To say something memorable before you die, you either have to say something memorable and then completely shut up until you die, or you have to say something memorable every five seconds.
'

The other book which I haven't had a chance to read yet is called 'The Liar' by Stephen Fry. I knew him as one half of the Fry and Laurie duo. Brit comedians. Laurie as in Hugh Laurie, the guy who acted in House MD. Anyway it's promising. I watched quite abit of their sitcoms in youtube and they were part of the Black Adder cast. Based on Fry's works, I believe this book will be a huge dose of laughter too.

That's all for my night out. Two good books, a hearty dinner on a comfy sofa and then a pleasant train ride home.

=)

Hi-yah!

My shoulders are aching.. cause yesterday I accompanied two cols to the gym for COMBAT CLASS!

Hiyaaah! Upper cut, low kick, back kick! Move move move!! Whoo it was FUN. Calories losing, very hyped music and I'm grinning like an idiot when it ended.

Hehe I was there as a guest, so I guess if I really want to join for good, I have to fork $118 for the gym membership (at Fitness First). Well fun though the class may be, I'm not liking the place very much. It's too.. how do you say.. bright.

I don't know. Shiny floors, rows of equipment, very 'atas' looking to me. Locker room was also nice and neat with card scanner as a lock. Hmm, impersonal? I don't know. Trainers about in uniforms.. drink machine.. magazines, couches.. Well, ok I guess with that price, it better be damn good. Free tshirts/shorts (uh you can't keep 'em) and towels. It's an experience la. I don't go gym so it was an eye-opener.

I remembered the gym I ever went was in States. My brother's apartment joint has a common gym/pool. Very small. Size of a 1.5 living room of a 5-room flat, I guess? There's no trainer, nobody! I was quite happy jogging on the treadmill alone, watching tv.

BUT, the pumped up workout brings back aerobics days. I think I will abandon Yoga and switch back to aerobics for a change. The only issue is it's on Thurs, after work. Which really, is better than waking up early on a Sunday. *hehehe*

Hiyah! Punch up in the air and rest.

Whoo!

Well, I did end up at city hall but not alone! I met up with a couple of tkg mates and we spent a nice time at Marina having dinner at Secret Recipes. After which, we decided to check out the bowling joint before catching the last train but it was too crowded.

Cause we wanted to -do something-, we walked into the arcade opposite and played House of the Dead 2. Now that is a classic game. 10 years ago, we played that, 10 years later, we STILL are. The best part? We completed it many times and today, we did it again!

The five us pooled five bucks each. So we took turns to play, and I think our performance dropped a little. We used to be able to complete in shorter time and lesser credits. Anyway, 10 years ago when we started training on the game, we blew ALOT. Me and EH, at one time, threw $40 bucks total to finish it. Today, with five of us, we spent $18 in total. So that averages out to $3-$4 each. Big difference. :D

It was so enjoyable. Just standing there, leaning near the big screen, shooting the monsters and knowing exactly which NPC to shoot or save (coz it affects the route) and which box has the Life Up. Heck, we memorise the route and the 'trick' to killing the bosses already. Every time we enter an arcade, it will be HoD2. At chalet? Apart from game console, it will also be HoD2. I don't think we completed 3 though. One of these days ... ;p

So we hogged the guns, and completed the game. Really awesome and exciting. Hehehe. *hugs bunch of mates*

Next item.. I bought tix at Sistic before meeting them! Whoo! Yep, two tix to the Paul Anka World Tour 2008. It's gonna be a surprise gift for my dad coz he's the one who introduced the singer to me when I was a kid. Turning me into a Gold 90.5 fan. Lol. Paul has many classic hits and I do enjoy his voice. I got very good seats for cat5 (no need to see him la, hear can liao) and most of the blocks in cat5 were sold out! Good thing I didn't delay further. Hehehe.. the show is on 22nd Sep 2008. If I waited longer, the cheapest tix would have poofed.

Short Term Goal:
I'm going to upgrade Spiky! Poor boy is in need of a good upgrade. It's been 6-7 years since he was created. Time for a new one, else I can't play the games I want (like NWN2... don't even need to think about Spore.. hard... very .. hard.)

So far, over the years...
monitor replaced
motherboard replaced
PSU replaced
cause they died.

I need to give it an overhaul since almost everything in Spiky is obsolete. It's one -old package- now, meaning I can't just change a single item. Cause it won't fit.
So change one = change all.

Things to get (courtesy of Rai who shall be my SLS guide. I'm going to leech on her):
- CPU + MB : $300
- 2GB ram : $ 50
- 500GB hdd : $140
- PSU Acbel : $80
- Graphics card : $130

Prepare to spend: $700+ (in case of hidden cost like.. new casing..maybe?)

Well Spiky 1.0 cost me near $1,250 (exclude monitor. I think that 17" was.. 500 bucks. My 19" is a diff brand and cost half that price. I luv it ♥)

Time for Spiky 2.0. Hmm and I need to do alot of backup and installment etc. Rai, 靠你了!

*mucho hugs all around*

Happiness.

Life is Savvy

Well well, it's a Fwiday and things are looking pretty good.

I picked myself up (heave-ho!) and concentrated harder at work. Cleared alot of things once I stop the procrastination. Apparently it's easy stuff la, so there really isn't an issue. Must have proper attitude and I'm getting up earlier to go to work.

Reach office five mins before the work hour (9am) and avoid the blazing sun (well less hot. At least to me). I have ample time to on pc, make my coffee, settle in. It's poifect. I use to reach office at 8.30am but past months due to bad-aura, I will reach abt 9.15-9.20am. It was kinda late la, everybody has reached.

SO. What else. I went for a COCA steamboat last friday with a bunch of colleagues and we had tons and tons and tons of beef. Pics shall be posted later.

Tomorrow I'm going for ANOTHER steamboat buffet at suntec city. With my bunch of villagers. It's been some time since we met so I'm looking forward to the gathering. (thanks EC, the organisor ;p)

Hmm, have been going on a little diet like I said in my previous post. Seems to have slim a little. A -little-. My shirt's not so tight so that's one good gauge. Keep up the good work, go me!

Col's bday is tmr so I hand-made a card for her. It's the usual dept celebration.

Hmm, my mechanical pencil is spoiled. I have no plans tonight. Maybe I'll just walk around city hall alone to do some mini shopping for self. *twiddle*
